Welcome to The Ashby Arms, Hungarton

A little bit about us...

Lovely village pub restaurant, passionate about food and drink.

Est. 2001

The Ashby Arms Hungarton is situated in the beautiful village of Hungarton. The pub has always been a pub formally The Black Boy Inn.

With a warm and friendly welcome.

Mark and Rachel Thompson bought the pub on a wet and cold day in November 2001. At that time it was known as The Black Boy Inn and for many years the couple have refurbished and updated many areas of the pub. They were married at the pub in 2004 and have two children and a dog. After 21years of ownership they have decided that a rebrand and name change was due.

The Ashby Arms was a former pub in Hungarton when there were two pubs, one at each end of the village. It was closed in the early part of the 20th century to become a farm and later on a house. Mark and Rachel decided that to keep the new pub name as historic to Hungarton as possible The Ashby Arms has been reborn.

If you want to dine, drink or unwind we have a cosy relaxed atmosphere. In the winter we offer two open log fires which are cosy and warm and in the summer a large garden with decking area.

Booking is advisable at all times.

We allow dogs in our snug area.

We politely ask that you keep your dog on a lead and off the furniture.Food and drinks are served in this area. (tables are a first come, first served basis).

Our menu contains a variety of homemade dishes. That are prepared by Mark and Aaron. We use fresh local ingredients wherever possible and support our local suppliers.

Breakfast at The Ashby Arms

There’s something quite nice about a proper breakfast in the pub — no rush, good coffee, and a plate that actually fills you up.

On the last Thursday and Friday of every month (9–11am), we open up for a relaxed morning at The Ashby Arms. Think proper butcher’s sausages from Andrew Sykes, crisp hash browns, good back bacon, black pudding, eggs just how you like them and plenty of toast.

Go for the Small Ashby if you want all the essentials without overdoing it, or the Big Ashby if you’re properly hungry — double up on sausages, eggs, hash browns and black pudding and settle in. There’s a vegetarian version too, plus smoked salmon with scrambled eggs on sourdough if you’re in the mood for something lighter.

If sweet’s more your thing, the American-style pancakes come stacked with either bacon and maple syrup or berries and yoghurt. Or keep it simple with granola, fruit and yoghurt.

Add a fresh orange juice and a decent coffee — flat white, cappuccino, latte, or just a solid Americano — and you’ve got a very civilised way to start the day.

No fuss. Just good breakfast, done properly, in the pub.
